Browns adds another Fuso to their Truck Fleet
Melbourne, VIC — Browns Sawdust & Shavings has expanded its fleet with another new Fuso Fighter 2427 6x4 truck, continuing a long-standing relationship based on proven durability and driver comfort.
“We’ve got a truck that has proved itself over and over,” says owner Scott Brown. “Reliability is the key factor in the decision. You don’t often get trucks that give you a million kilometres without giving you any grief, from the cab right down to the driveline. If it’s not broke — buy another one.”
Browns first purchased a Fighter in 2006; that vehicle exceeded well over one million trouble-free kilometres and was sold to one of our very good customers in Seymour, where it is used every day delivering sawdust north of Melbourne. In 2016 Browns Sawdust purchased the replacement Fuso — yet another Fighter 2427 6x4 with a walking-floor body fitted. This truck has also reached one million kilometres, is still going strong and will remain in our fleet for some time delivering our products.
The new addition to our fleet is a 2025/2026 Fighter. This truck features a 7.5-litre six-cylinder engine producing 199 kW and 784 Nm of torque. Browns opted for a six-speed Allison Automatic MD-3500. Class-leading 20,000 km service intervals are offered, though Browns chooses more frequent servicing due to high PTO usage.
Driver comfort and practical design were also important. Long-serving driver Barry Evans, who has been with the company for over 30 years, selected his truck for the next million kilometres and appreciates the roomy cab and improved visibility, including through the passenger door. The Fighter’s compact dimensions and rear air suspension — which can be lowered for tight farm sheds — make it ideal for Browns’ deliveries to farms and stables across Victoria.
Browns supplies sawdust, wood shavings and woodchips to the equine and agricultural sectors, including dairy, poultry, racehorse and dressage stables, and exports woodchips to ports. The company’s trucks use walking-floor bodies, enabling precise delivery into confined dray areas rather than dumping beneath tall sheds.
Founded by Geoffrey Brown in the 1970s and now owned and run by Scott Brown since 2003, Browns Sawdust & Shavings has grown to a 12-truck fleet while adapting to new technologies and market uses. What was once a disposal problem is now a valuable product used for animal bedding, power generation, kiln fuel and horticultural applications.
